Atlas Ailsa Achromatic Z Speaker Cables

DESCRIPTION AND FEATURES

IN THE BOX: 2 speaker cables – for 2 speakers

Ailsa Achromatic is a sophisticated OCC speaker cable offering discerning audiophiles a true taste of ‘high-end’ performance. Available terminated in Z (Z-plug) or S (spade) versions.

All cables inevitably lose some of the audio signal and/or add their own colorations. Our newest product range, every aspect of the Ailsa family is designed and engineered to reduce this distortion to extremely low levels – meaning you get more of your music with an absolute minimum taken away or added.

Ailsa is the first in our product hierarchy to use high-purity OCC (Ohno Continuous Casting) copper conductors. With a 3.0mm² diameter, the generous conductor cross-section gives superior low-frequency performance, while carefully optimized construction featuring our SSG (Super-Stabilized conductor Geometry) and anti-vibration cotton filler ensures Ailsa is exceptionally transparent to the signal for a cable of this class.

For the dielectric, we use a high-efficiency microporous PTFE which means virtually no ‘smearing’ or other signal degradation.

Our acclaimed low-mass non-conductive Achromatic Z connectors eliminate any possible detrimental effects of magnetic eddy currents, and precision-calibrated cold-weld termination gives a superior connection to conventional solder fixing, with increased signal continuity because of fewer ‘barriers’ created by different materials.

Achromatic Z Plug

Our proprietary Beryllium Achromatic Z Plug is a low-mass, self-cleaning, solder-free construction speaker plug.

Precision-built.

Cold-weld terminated with Atlas Achromatic Z (4mm).

High precision calibrated pneumatic cold-weld crimp connection.

Ohno Continuous Casting Copper (OCC Copper)

In 1985, Professor Ohno, from the Chiba Institute of Technology, developed his patented method for the extrusion of a grain-free copper wire. (Technical papers are available from the Japan Inst. Metals and from Chapman & Hall, publishers.)

When a pure metal solidifies, its crystals grow in a specific geometrical pattern (typical to that metal) emanating from a nucleus, rather like the dendritic growth pattern of a tree. The size of the metal crystals grown can be varied by repeatedly annealing metal such as is done in the LC-OFC process. The structure of a strand of copper may be likened to that of a bag of sugar. Every grain of sugar has a crystal boundary. In a conductor, these crystal boundaries (potential barriers) act as a non-linear resistance to the flow of electric current. It follows that, the fewer the boundaries, the less the effect there is on an electric signal as it propagates from one end of the conductor to the other. Atlas cables such as the Arran and Mavros use OCC copper, whereas the top of the range Asimi uses pure OCC silver.

The Ohno continuous casting method reheats the extrusion as the molten copper is forced out of the mold, and very slowly and gradually draws the grain or crystal down the conductor‘s length, creating a ‘single crystal structure.’ Actually, because no copper is 100% pure, there will always be a few boundaries produced by impurities. The frequency of boundaries created are quite insignificant. A typical crystal in a copper conductor drawn to 0.3 mm diameter, using the OCC process is 125.00 meters long!

The benefits are obvious, with almost no crystal boundaries, the audio signal is no longer impeded down the copper wire and more information and detail is delivered faithfully to the receiving equipment.

Microporous PTFE

Microporous PTFE (Teflon™) is a unique, low density dielectric material, phase stable at room temperature, which offers significant performance improvements over solid PTFE (Teflon™) dielectric designs.

Stranded Multi-core

A set of matched conductors wrapped in microporous PTFE dielectric using Atlas’ Super Stabilized conductor geometry (SSG isolation layer) with anti-vibration cotton filler.
